The Crimes Against Property Squad assists precinct squads in investigations regarding burglary patterns that are occurring across precinct lines, as well as the recovery of property stolen in all burglaries. They are responsible for all investigations into EBay fraud as well as Trademark Counterfeiting. Furthermore, they assist patrol and precinct squads in the investigation of auto theft and are responsible for all vehicle exams involving the determination of ownership of a vehicle and/or it's parts. They investigate forgeries, grand larcenies and frauds against banking institutions and governmental agencies, cases involving fraudulent checks and credit cards in excess of three thousand dollars, and all cases involving counterfeit U.S. Currency. In addition, the squad investigates the use of the Internet in committing crimes against children. Finally, they are responsible for the investigation of matters relating to computer crime wherein the computer is the target or instrumentality of the crime. The Computer Crime Section performs forensic analysis of computer data to recover and preserve computer data evidence.
