The Forensic Evidence Bureau is responsible for the collection and examination of all evidence collected by Department members. Crime Scene Search Section Crime Scene Search Section documents, examines, collects, and preserves evidence at scenes. Criminalistics and Documents Section Criminalistics and Documents Section conducts examinations regarding trace evidence such as hair, fibers, gunshot residue, and shoe print comparisons; performs examinations on arson evidence; conducts examinations regarding questioned documents; and performs serological examinations. Drug Chemistry Section Drug Chemistry Section conducts examinations of narcotic and other controlled substance evidence and evidence involving blood alcohol levels. Evidence Assessment Section Evidence Assessment Section intakes, preserves, analyzes, and tracks forensic evidence. They ascertain the probative value of different items of evidence and forward the evidence to the appropriate sections. Firearms Identification Section Firearms Identification Section conducts examinations of firearm evidence. Latent Fingerprint Section Latent Fingerprint Section conducts latent fingerprint examinations. Photography and Rogue Gallery Section Photography and Rogues Gallery Section maintains and operates the Photographic Lab; maintains a profile system that provides automated computer generated photographs and vital statistics of criminals arrested in Nassau County; provides composite artists to aid in investigations.
