The Legal Bureau advises and guides members in legal and quasi-legal matters that pertain to or affect law enforcement; reviews all legal process, such as Notice of Claim investigations, Summonses and Complaints, and prepares cases for litigation; prepares and administers contracts with outside agencies, vendors and service providers; processes Freedom of Information Law requests; maintains liaison with the courts, the Office of County Attorney, and the Office of the District Attorney; reviews Department procedures; monitors new statutes and court decisions which affect the Department; and, advises outside law enforcement agencies on legal matters.
